Cum Laude Society

We inducted 19 students into the Cum Laude Society today. I was impressed with the speeches given at the ceremony by the current members, who are all seniors at GDS. They had words of wisdom for the Upper School students. While there was not an assigned theme, each student spoke to some degree about the importance of grades and studying not dominating your time. They talked of finding a balance that allows for study as well as relaxing and enjoying life.

I thought that their message was a good one, especially, as they had a combined grade point average of 98 and an average SAT score of 1380. It was nice to see that these hard working students also knew the importance of taking a break and having fun. I also noted that more than one played a varsity sport.

As I sit here reflecting on their words late in the afternoon, I wonder if I need to take their advice and head home... maybe I will after I clean up my desk and reply to just a couple more emails...
